Does Blog and Ping REALLY work?
We find out. The Great "Cheapskates Blog and Ping Fest"
seminar/workshop next Saturday 21st May will test it out.
Details www.CheapskatesReport.com/blogandpingfest.html
]]>However the testing was a bit "hit and miss"
It maybe then many of you don't know what "Blog and Ping" is.
Simply put, it's the art of posting to a Blog, details of every single one of your web pages, one by one, Pinging (or notifying) the major indices of the new Blog entries, and then ensuring that details of your RSS feed are picked up by at least one search engine.
Apparently it snowballs from there.
So we are going to publicly test the concept .

VidSense: Contextual Video Advertising from Penn Media
A new video contexttual advertising program named VidSense was announced by Penn Media.
Instead of the traditional text ads, VidSense offers video advertising instead. All original video content is preceded by a short 15 to 30 second streamed video commercial. Revenues generated from the video views are shared with the sites placing the player on their site.
666gle is evil?
This article on somethingawful.com makes a good point that Google is basically cacheing everything on the internet, reproducing the whole internet on its servers. This has privacy implications. For example, according to its privacy policy, Google caches cookies including those from sites that store your purchasing habits and website visitation habits in the cookies. The blognewschannel has a summary of the problem with the cookies. When Google stores the cookie of someone logged into a website, the cookie is used again and allows subsequent users of web accelerator to login as that user.
I am now adding the noarchive metatag to my websites and to my webmail interface. Googlebot respects the noarchive metatag and I'm hoping it means the same thing for the webaccelerator too.
UPDATE: There is a good discussion about webaccelerator in 37signals.com. I am already following their instructions and blocking GWA's IP address range in .htaccess.

]]>Compare Your AdSense Earnings
AdMoolah (www.AdMoolah.com) was launched on April 23rd, 2005. It is a website for sharing and comparing Google AdSense earnings.
In March 2005, Google updated the AdSense policies to allow publishers to accurately disclose the amount of Google%u2019s gross payments. AdMoolah is an effort to centralized as much of such data as possible. Anyone can contribute to the list.
I%u2019ve played with it for a moment. Currently they have 44 records with sites from different industries/niche markets; from travel, computer software, arts, personal and business blogs, news, and more.
As the records grow, I expect to get more interesting and useful results. The good thing is some of the sites even provide the link to their AdSense web site. If the community contributed data could be validated, content publishers and webmasters should be able to estimate how much money they are going to earn from their AdSense web site before wasting time in that niche.
Worth Looking at as Podcasting is now Hot News
Marketing Loop Blog reports
Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc. has published an article on the legal issues of podcasting.
In a nutshell, it covers various legal issues on musical works, sound recordings, reproduction and licensing. Best of all, it is written in a way I can understand.
There are times when I look at some sites and you know they are little more than puff pieces for badly written and expensive reports.
But this one is the real business or as we say in England, "This one is the dog's b.....ks" - It's really incredible - This guy, Andy Williams, (I wonder whether he can sing in a rocking chair!!) really knows what he is talking about.
I had a look at some of the archives, and frankly you need to download them all - take a few hours off, and make it your SEO 201.
Subscribe for free and get some excellent reports with real information in - not just sales pitches.
Well done Andy - an invaluable resource which I'll return to often.
Frederick Wacka, a communcations advisor in Sweden has published this free primer on corporate blogging. Worthwhile to look at.
He writes:
"I suspect that many of you who read this blog with some regularity will think the primer is too basic. But maybe it can help you create an understanding of blogs within your organizations. The fact is that most people still don't have a clue about "that blog thing". "

Recently, Google announced that their recently added video search service (http://video.google.com) would soon be accepting uploaded video from anyone who had a video they wished to share with the world.
When I first read about it, I was slightly underwhelmed because I couldn't see the benefit of uploading a video to Google, as opposed to just putting it on your own site (other than bandwidth).
Upon closer observation, Google may have discovered an incredible new profit source for both them and video publishers.
Here's why.
Apparently, Google is going to allow you to, at your discretion, charge people to view your uploaded video content.

Free Report: Blogs & Wikis: Technology for Enterprise Applications?
The Gilbane Report publishes a report about using blogs and wikis technology in enterprise world. Visit the site to read full report or download PDF document for offline viewing.
Here is an executive summary from the report:
Blogs and wikis are flexible practices and technologies that are increasingly being used within companies and organizations to ease the creation and dissemination of information, as well as making it easier for companies to communicate effectively with customers, partners, and the public. This article discusses some of the salient features of blogs and wikis, and give examples of companies who already have implemented one or more of these systems.
On speaking with several vendors and users, it is obvious that many companies are implementing blogs and/or wikis or hybrid systems successfully and I expect this to continue as the technologies and practices mature.
Although as I mentioned above this report is talking about enterprise blogs and wikis, much of the information contained in this document is suitable to any business. The technologies are all about content management and collaboration, which applies to small to medium sized business as well.
This is well worth looking at. Any place that lists free tools is worth putting in your Bookmarks
Go for it!!
You'll receive the "Blogs for Profit" package. An amazing publication
together with some free research reports.
The value of this worth hundreds. But it's yours free
]]>Seth Godin is fantastic and I admire him greatly. Sometimes just a tiny nugget of information can change your whole view. His bit about the monkey and "where's the banana" just totally floored me.
However his blog entry yesterday (10th April 2005) totally misses the point. Whilst it is true that one third of all the world's Cardinals are over 80 years old, none of these will be picking the next pope. The selectors have to be under 80.
Seth's final comment needs addressing:
"Most organizations want to grow. Virtually all religions do. What happens, though, when your worldview and biases are so different from the places you're hoping to grow?"
Business Answer - You don't grow - You fail
Religious Answer - You grow even better.
Why?
Because you are totally and utterly counter-cultural. You do things that the world says are totally mad. But you don't care. You stick with it because of something called "revelation and vision"
Something about being citizens not of this world but citizens of heaven.
